By signing a contract worth 250,000 kuna between Končar Elektroindustrija and the Croatian Computer Society (HSIN), Končar has become the general sponsor of the 19th International Computer Olympiad, which will be held in Croatia in August.
In addition to general sponsorship, Končar is providing computers for the competition and is involved in the design, implementation, and supervision of the computer network that will be used at the Olympiad. ‘Končar has supported us for many years, especially in preparing the computer Olympians, and we are pleased that this company has decided to assist in the organization of the 19th International Computer Olympiad 2007,’ said Ivo Šeparović, Secretary General of the Croatian Computer Society and Executive Director of IOI 2007. The International Computer Olympiad is the most important global competition in computer science, bringing together teams of the best young computer scientists from around 90 countries.
Students compete individually in solving problem tasks using computer programming languages, and the winners are recognized as the best young scientists in computer science worldwide. In 15 years of competition, Croatian computer Olympians have won three gold, 15 silver, and 24 bronze medals.
– We are pleased that the International Computer Olympiad is being held in our country and that Končar can contribute to the organization of this event. One of our missions, which we approach very seriously, is to support young people in acquiring knowledge and skills – said Darinko Bago, President of the Management Board of Končar.
