Pension Fund Assets Nearly 16.9 Billion Kuna

The net assets of four mandatory pension funds (OMF) in Croatia at the end of January this year amounted to more than 16.4 billion kuna, while the assets of six open voluntary pension funds (ODMF) exceeded 419 million kuna, according to data from the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency.

Adding to this just under 65 million kuna in net assets of ten closed DMFs, the total assets of all pension funds in Croatia at the end of January this year amounted to nearly 16.9 billion kuna. The largest share in the total net assets of mandatory pension funds, at 40.64 percent, or 6.65 billion kuna at the end of January, was held by AZ fund. It is followed by Raiffeisen OMF with net assets worth 5.13 billion kuna, representing a 31.31 percent share.

The assets of PBZ Croatia Insurance fund simultaneously amounted to 2.8 billion kuna (share of 17.08 percent), while Erste Plavi fund had 1.8 billion kuna or 11.07 percent of the total net assets of Croatian OMFs. AZ fund had a leading position at the end of last month in terms of the number of members. Of nearly 1.33 million insured persons covered by the second pension pillar, 505,854 or 38.07 percent were members of this fund at the end of January. In second place was Raiffeisen fund with 437,058 members (share of 32.89 percent).

Following are PBZ/CO fund with 223,624 members, or a share of 16.83 percent, and Erste Plavi fund, which with 162,243 members held 12.21 percent of the market. Among ODMFs, the largest number of members at the end of 2006 was held by AZ Profit ODMF – 27,654 or 35.36 percent of a total of 77,917 insured persons in the third pension pillar. Slightly less, or 26,391 insured persons (33.87 percent) were in Raiffeisen fund at the end of January, while in third place was Croatia Insurance ODMF with 10,522 members (13.5 percent). Erste Plavi Expert fund ended January with 6,094 or 7.82 percent of insured persons, followed by AZ benefit (5,654 or 7.26 percent) and Erste Plavi Protect fund (1,708 or 2.19 percent).

When viewed by the value of their net assets at the end of January, Raiffeisen ODMF was in first place, managing 219.25 million kuna or 52.33 percent of the total assets of ODMFs. The net assets of AZ profit simultaneously amounted to 117.17 million kuna (27.96 percent), followed by AZ benefit with assets of nearly 32 million kuna (7.62 percent) and Croatia Insurance ODMF with 32.2 million kuna (7.69 percent). Erste Plavi Expert managed 3.32 percent of the assets (13.9 million kuna), while 1.08 percent of the assets (4.5 million kuna) was managed by Erste Plavi Protect fund.  (H)
