The majority of respondents are most familiar with current accounts, followed by overdrafts on current accounts and checks, as well as debit cards for withdrawing and depositing money at ATMs and for payments at points of sale, and with giro accounts.
After the last survey five years ago, citizens are better acquainted with bank products and have changed their perception of their role. These are the findings of a survey on familiarity with banking products and the perception of the role of banking, conducted by the Croatian Banking Association in collaboration with the GFK Market Research Center.
The survey further shows that residents from the Zagreb area and those with higher education are more familiar with banking products. Compared to the survey from five years ago, when the majority of respondents considered the most important role of banks to be the collection of savings and the provision of loans, this year’s survey places greater emphasis on lending. Banks should be a driver of economic development in society, followed by their broader social and societal function, according to the majority of respondents.
This opinion is most prevalent among residents from the areas of Lika, Kordun, Banovina, and Slavonia. Among newer bank products, the largest number of respondents, 26.7 percent, strongly supports the planned start of the Mediation Center, which would resolve disputes between banks and clients. This is followed by encouraging savings, which is strongly supported by 23 percent of respondents, and then by Black Lists and HROK, which is strongly supported by the smallest number of respondents.
