All disputes between insurers or between insurers and insured parties will henceforth be resolved by the Ombudsman in the field of insurance, an independent and autonomous body for resolving disputes between parties and insurance companies, announced Marijan Ćurković, Chairman of the Management Board of the Croatian Insurance Bureau.
As Ante Lui, the ombudsman in the field of insurance, added, the ombudsman will warn parties in dispute who do not behave in accordance with the Code of Conduct in the insurance market, which was also adopted by the Insurance Bureau. The Council of the Ombudsman consists of Darja Tirić, an independent expert in insurance, finance, and economic law, appointed by the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency, Nikola Miljević, a consumer representative appointed by the Croatian Consumer Association ‘Portrošač’, and Aleksandra Trbojević, a representative of insurance and reinsurance companies, appointed by the Management Board of the Croatian Insurance Bureau. – If the dispute is resolved in court, the damage is on average 35 percent higher – reminded Marijan Ćurković – Therefore, one of the functions of the ombudsman is the peaceful resolution of conflicts outside of court.
