Maja Sraga, president of AIESEC Rijeka, officially opened the International Week – an international project that gathers delegates from around the world for five days once a year during the Rijeka Carnival. During this period, delegates get to know Rijeka and the culture of the area through interactive workshops and sightseeing tours of the city and its surroundings.
Croatian delegates also have the opportunity to learn about the customs and values of the countries whose delegates participate in this project. As in previous years, the project gathers delegates from various parts of the world, and this year delegates from the United Kingdom, Italy, Slovakia, Canada, Serbia, and Russia, as well as delegates from Croatia, are expected. A special event called Global Village, organized as part of the project, emphasizes intercultural understanding by having delegates present characteristic products from their countries. To encourage the spirit of internationalism, the Global Village is also open to students who are unable to attend the entire project.
In this way, the project aims to bring itself closer to other students who are not members of AIESEC so that they too have the opportunity to meet delegates from around the world and exchange their knowledge and experiences, thus creating a network of acquaintances on an international level. This project has proven to be a good means of spreading internationalism, and its main characteristic is cultural awareness. Special emphasis is also placed on recognizing and developing leadership skills as the project includes workshops and lectures that focus on these main themes. The culmination of the project is the international carnival parade in which AIESEC Rijeka participates as an independent group, providing its delegates with the opportunity to experience the third largest carnival from their own perspective.
