Delicacies from all corners of the world could be tasted in Bangkok at a gala dinner featuring an 11-course meal for which participants paid a ‘modest’ 29,000 dollars per person.
"We limited the number of participants to 40 seats," explained Kanokrat Petchpornprapas, spokesperson for the Mezzaluna restaurant, which organized the event on Saturday evening at one of the most luxurious hotels in the Thai capital. The selection of dishes was prepared by European chefs whose skills are rated with three Michelin stars. These include French chefs Antoine Westermann, Jean-Michel Lorain, Marc Meneau, and Alain Soliveres, as well as German Heinz Winkler and Italian Annie Feolde.
Guests enjoyed specialties from Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, including foie gras, Kobe beef, Beluga caviar, and black truffles, paired with selected wines, notably Chateau Latour 1955 and Chateau d’Yquem 1967. However, there were no Thai specialties on the menu. A portion of the proceeds went to charity for the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders and the Chaipattana Foundation, founded by the Thai king. (H)
