Following the expiration of the stand-by arrangement with Croatia last year, the International Monetary Fund has decided to close its office in Zagreb. The head of the office, or the IMF’s permanent representative in Croatia, Athanasios Vamvakidis, will return to the organization’s headquarters in Washington after the office closes, where he will serve as the permanent representative for another European country.
The relationship between the IMF and Croatia will henceforth be limited to one annual visit by a fund delegation as part of Article 4 consultations and providing technical support to the government in Zagreb. The IMF established its office in Zagreb in 1996, two years after the start of the first stand-by arrangement with Croatia. (H. M.)
